Coimbatore: Vice Chancellor of Bharathiar University, G. Thiruvasagam has said that the Tamil Nadu State Eligibility Test (SET) which is scheduled to be held on November 2, 2008 will most likely be postponed.

The decision is a result of the sudden increase in the number of teachers applying for the examination, after the recommendations of the Pay Review Committee (PRC) of University Grants Commission (UGC) were announced.

Thiruvasagam said, "The recommendations stipulate that lecturers, who will be assistant professors, have to necessarily be SET or NET (National Eligibility Test) qualified. Hence, those who do not have this eligibility, have urged the university (which is the nodal agency for conduct of examinations) to postpone the examination to enable them to attend the same."

There was also a request from teachers to include subjects that were not included in the original list of subjects for the examination this year.
