Tamil Nadu students to get 10 mins extra in Board Exams

Chennai: It is a common practice among many students in India that during the period of examination they are under stress and they frequently go wrong with even the known subjects. To avoid such situation, the Tamil Nadu Education Dept has allowed more time for students to read and understand questions before they start writing answers.

From this year onwards students appearing for class 10th and 12th board examinations will get extra time to read and understand the questions before start writing.

Now students will no need to hurry for the answer sheets to write the answers. They will be allowed additional 10 minutes time to read and understand the questions, said school education minister Thangam Thennarasu.

"The move will improve the pass percent in public examinations and help more students get admissions to professional courses," Thennarasu added.

The move has also been welcomed by several intellectuals and academic mass of the state. "The time allotted for reading the questions would relieve the students of the initial stress. It would reflect in their answers," said S Muthukrishnan, receiver of the national reward for teachers.

"We mentally prepare for the answers while reading the questions. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has already allowed 15 minutes extra time for students to go through the questions papers. It is a revolutionary step and we welcome the move," said a class 10th student in a Chennai school.
