Washington: The US will provide India $250,000 in training assistance to build its intellectual property rights (IPR) criminal enforcement capacity with a focus on the New Delhi and Bangalore high courts.

The India project is one of the nine new projects totalling $3 million approved by the US State Department as part of efforts to combat transnational crime and promote the rule of law and the protection of IPR worldwide.

The projects are being financed by anti-crime funds to enable US law enforcement agencies and diplomatic missions to collaborate in the delivery of international enforcement training and technical assistance programmes on intellectual property rights protection.

Training and technical assistance in the investigation and prosecution of intellectual property crime will be provided to foreign law enforcement partners in nations across the Pacific Rim, Latin America, Eastern Europe and Africa, the State Department said.

The Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs and the Bureau of Economic, Energy and Business Affairs selected the projects after considering input from industry, other federal agencies, overseas missions, and the US Congress, it said. IANS
