New Delhi: The Delhi Police have arrested four people in connection with fake admission racket at the Delhi University (DU). After the arrest of a student from Ramjas College, a second-year student from SRCC College has been arrested. Now, the Police are further expanding its probe in to other colleges.
Though the University has not intervened in the matter, other colleges are alarmed. Ramjas College has been looking for other such cases, if any, and to the astonishment of everyone, 28 instances have been reported with forged marksheets or certificates.
The Police had contacted SRCC College, last week for details. They are careful about General/OBC students' admissions but much cannot be done in case of SC/ST, as university is responsible for their admission.
Other colleges have got vigilant and detected few such cases. Deen Dayal Updhyaya College (DDU) has detected one student with forged marksheet. Hindu college caught a student submitting fake OBC certificate.
Generally, colleges take help of Board's website or CDs to verify marksheets, issuing agency verifies OBC certificates and the university does the verification for SC/ST certificates.
The high-powered committee for admission reforms will look in to the matter and take steps to make system more secure.
However, no such incidents have been noted in some colleges so far, such as Gargi College. It has its admission committee that cross-checks marksheets and OBC or other certificates are sent to the issuing agency for verification.
