New Delhi: The Distance Education Programme (DEP), an initiative of the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry, has tied up with the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) to train teachers enrolled for the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA).

IGNOU will provide teleconferencing facilities to sharpen the teaching skills of teachers.

The technique will be used to communicate knowledge to the functionaries in isolated areas where there is no shortage of electricity and computers are easily accessible.

The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) is an effort of the HRD Ministry to universalise elementary education by community-ownership of the school system.

The SSA programme is also an attempt to provide an opportunity for improving human capabilities to all children, through provision of community-owned quality education in a mission mode.
