Jamia to present Honorary Degree to Amartya Sen
New Delhi: The Jamia Milia Islamia (JMI) University will honour economist Amartya Sen, a Nobel Laureate, with a doctorate on Friday.

The University has honoured the Tibetan Spiritual Leader, Dalai Lama with doctorate last year. This year, the honour will be presented to Dr. Sen, who is known for his work on welfare economics, especially on the causes of famine and has won Nobel Prize in Economics in 1998.

The varsity has decided to award the doctorate to the Harvard Professor last month at its annual convocation but Mr. Sen was not available at that time.
