Singapore: A special university for the children of overseas Indians will start from the next year in Bangalore. This was announced by the Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs, Vayalar Ravi, on the eve of the first ever Asia-Pacific conference under the rubric of "Pravasi Bhartiya Divas".

"Land acquisition has already started for this purpose. This idea was mooted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh", informed Vayalar Ravi.

The Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) has been entrusted with the project, further said Ravi.

Addressing the gathering, he said that this project has been approved by the Cabinet for the benefit of Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and People of Indian Origin (PIO) among the foreign nationals.
