5 new centres of AMU to come up in the country
Aligarh: The Academic Council of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has decided to set up five new centres across the country.

All these five new centres will be set up at Murshidabad (West Bengal), Katihar (Bihar), Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Pune (Maharshtra) and Mallappuram (Kerala).

The university has already initiated talks with the concerned states to open new centres of the varsity.

These centres will offer traditional and job oriented courses in the region.

Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis, Vice-Chancellor of the varsity informed the Council that the university had contacted the state governments concerned for getting 250 to 300 acres of land free of cost to set up the special centres.

Prof. Aziz also informed that a proposal of Rs.2,000 crore to establish these centres during the 11th Plan is pending with the Human Resource Development Ministry (MHRD)

The Vice-Chancellor has also been authorized to constitute a committee of the Academic Council to study the academic aspects of establishing the centres.
