Aligarh: The first ever Pediatric Pacemaker implantation was performed at the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) recently.
The Pacemaker was implanted on a ten-year old girl Preeti, who was suffering from Viral Myocardetis-induced complete heart block.
The life saving procedure was performed by two teams from the College led by Dr. Arif Wahab, Senior Resident, Centre of Cardiology and Dr. Lavneesh Mohan Aggarwal, Senior Resident, Pediatrics under the guidance of Dr. Shadab A Khan, Director of the Centre of Cardiology.
With this implantation, the Centre of Cardiology (J.N. Medical College) has become one of the few centres in the country where Pediatrics Pacemaker facility has been made available at a low cost.
Dr. Shadab A. Khan told that Pacemaker facility for elders is already available at the centre but after starting Pediatrics Pacemaker, it will immediately benefit the residents of the city and nearby areas of western Uttar Pradesh.
He also told that the centre has recently submitted a Rs.4 crore plan for Cathlab. The facility of angiography and angioplasty will also be available at Cardiology Centre once it is installed.
