Lucknow: The Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur has served notice on about 600 colleges across the state for violating admission norms in allotting seats in the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) course under the NRI quota, an official said on Saturday.

The university had conducted a Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for the course for the 2007-08 academic session around a year ago.

"We have received complaints that several colleges have committed anomalies while allotting the NRI seats," varsity vice-chancellor L.C. Mishra told IANS.

The seats reserved for NRI students were allotted to general students in various colleges of the state, he added.

The government has reserved 15 percent seats for NRI students in the B.Ed course, which is one of the most popular professional courses in Uttar Pradesh, officials said.

The notice has been served to colleges located in various districts including Kanpur, Jhansi, Bundelkhand, Lucknow, Meerut, Varanasi, Bareilly and Gorakhpur. IANS
