Noida (UP): Teachers from the Government-run primary and junior schools in the Gutam Buddha Nagar of Uttar Pradesh will be trained to check the eyesight of students.
M.L. Mishra, Chief Medical Officer said, "We have observed that several students are unable to clearly read what is written on the blackboard. This is clearly due to poor eyesight, which has aggravated further as students have ignored it".
"Teachers would be trained to conduct eyesight tests in the school itself. The motive is to detect eyesight problems in students at an early stage", Mishra added.
Regular physical and mental health check-ups will also be conducted by a team of doctors. A health card will be maintained regularly for every student.
The team would also guide parents on a balanced diet and ways to keep children fit and healthy.
"The district has 445 primary schools and 208 junior schools. A school health scheme would be implemented in phases. In the first phase, 160 schools have been identified under the health scheme", said Dharamvir Singh, Basic Education Officer.
Schools have been asked to send the names of teachers to be trained.
