Lucknow: A committee of the Uttar Pradesh legislative council will visit universities and colleges across the state to inquire into cases of ragging, an official said on Friday.
"The committee will start its state-wide inspection visits on July 19," Om Prakash Sharma, a council member, told IANS.
"We have learnt about incidents of ragging in several engineering and management institutes of Kanpur, Lucknow and Allahabad," he added.
The council's seven member anti-ragging committee will initially visit universities and colleges in Meerut, Ghaziabad, Noida, Mathura, Kanpur, Allahabad and Lucknow districts.
After inspecting the educational institutions, a show-cause notice would be served to those found to have failed in adopting adequate measures to counter ragging. IANS
