Kolkata: Several educational joint ventures, including training centres, will be set up in the city in collaboration with Ireland's Queen's University, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Tuesday.

"The (Queen's) university will collaborate with several of our universities like the Calcutta University and the Jadavpur University to form educational partnerships including setting up of various training centres," Banerjee said at the state Secretariat here.

A delegation, headed by Queen's University Chancellor Kamalesh Sharma, who is also the secretary general of the Commonwealth of Nations, met Banerjee on Tuesday.

"We look forward to promote education partnership with Calcutta, Jadavpur and Presidency universities which will provide mutual benefit to all," said Sharma.

The city will also be hosting the Commonwealth Cultural Festival next year.

"I suggested that the next cultural festival to be held here (Kolkata), to which they have agreed and have assured that they will discuss in detail in this regard," said Banerjee.

The cultural extravaganza was held in Australia's Perth this year in October.

Queens University Vice-chancellor Peter John Gregson, who was also part of the delegation, said: "The city is famous for its culture and we will see that its literature and culture get world recognition." IANS
