DU announces First Cut-Off List

New Delhi: The wait for thousands of Delhi University (DU) aspirants is finally over as the First Cut-Off list for admission to various undergraduate courses at the varsity has been announced.

Based on low English scores in the CBSE Class 12 examination this year, the cut-off marks for Arts and Commerce courses has witnessed a marginal change of 0.5-1 percent. For the Science courses, the cut-off marks have either decreased or have not changed at a majority of colleges.

DU First Cut-Off List 2008-09

B.Com (Honors)

The cut-off marks for B.Com. (Hons) at Sri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) this year is 94.5-98 percent as compared to 94.75-98.75 the previous year.

The cut-off marks for B.Com (Hons) at Hindu College and Hansraj College have also dipped. For a seat in B.Com (Hons) at Hindu College, students will require 94-97 percent marks and for Hansraj College, students need 94-95 percent marks this year.

With commerce cut-off marks skyrocketing this year at Lady Sri Ram (LSR) College, students aspiring for B.Com (Hons) course at LSR may find themselves out of the race. The cut-off for B.Com (Hons) at the college has increased by 1.5 percent this year at 95.5 percent.

B.Com (Programme)

The cut-off marks for B.Com (Programme) has, however, increased by 1-2 percent in several colleges including Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, Ramjas College, Sri Venkateswara College and Daulat Ram College.

The cut-off for B.Com (P) has gone up at Shaheed Bhagat Singh College by 0.5 percent to stand at 88-93 percent this year.

For a B.Com (P) at Sri Venkateswara College, students will require 92 percent marks this year. The cut-off at the college for the B.Com (P) last year was 91.5 percent.

Economics (Honors)

The cut-off marks for B.A. Economics (Hons), one of the most sought after courses at DU, has, interestingly, dipped by 0.25 percent at SRCC. It stands at 92.75-95.75 this year.

LSR has seen an increase in the cut-off marks for Economics (Hons) this year. Students will require 94 percent marks to be eligible for admission to Economics (Hons) at the college.

English (Honors)

The cut-off marks for English (Honors) - for which colleges under DU conducted separate entrance tests till the last year, has shot up in all colleges.

The highest cut-off for English (Hons) this year is 98 percent (for commerce students) at Hindu College.

Several other colleges have announced equally high cut-off marks with LSR at 93 percent, Indraprashta College at 87-90 percent and Kamla Nehru College at 87-92 percent.

Science Courses

A dip of 2-4 percent in various Science Courses has also been witnessed this year.

At Kirori Mal College, the cut-off percentage for BSc Physical Sciences has dipped by 8 percent. It stands at 74 percent this year.

The highest for BSc Physical Sciences this year is 90.33 percent at Hindu College.

"It is better not to even go to the colleges to see the cut-off marks. They are sky-high. My daughter has got 86 percent, which is fairly good, but she can't get the course of her choice", complained a parent.

Based on the First-Cut off List, admissions to various colleges under DU will be made between June 27 and June 30.

The second cut-off list will be announced on July 1.
